St. Elmo Golf Club, a semi-private club was established by 1970 by a group of local businessmen. The course has matured into one of the finest and most challenging 9 hole layouts in the area. It has tree lined zoysia and bermuda grass fairways with bent grass greens.

Forsee Vineyards and Winery is truly a family affair. In fact, our entire family is involved in the many facets of growing and picking grapes, producing wine or marketing and advertising. We are supporters of the Illinois wine industry and generate our wines from the grapes grown here at the vineyard or from other Illinois growers. Our friends and neighbors are also involved by picking the grapes and sharing the wine they helped to produce with their friends and families. The Vandalia, Illinois Lake is a 660 acre lake with 12 miles of shoreline located four miles northwest of Vandalia on Illinois Route 185 with an entrance to the marina, boat dock, campground and beach. The marina has boaters licenses available plus, gasoline, snacks, fishing supplies and bait.

A tremendous variety of outdoor recreational opportunities and natural beauty awaits you at Carlyle Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area, 60 miles east of St. Louis, near Vandalia. The area is at the northern end of Carlyle Lake and at the southwestern tip of Fayette County. Carlyle Lake is a 26,000-acre multipurpose lake administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Department of Natural Resources has a 25-year lease on part of the Army Corps' property to conduct a variety of habitat management measures aimed at increasing food, shelter and nesting areas for numerous wildlife species.

Coffeen Lake is an attractive site with a history of providing anglers and hunters great success. The site was opened in 1986 and operates under a long-term lease and management agreement between the Illinois Department. of Natural Resources and Ameren Energy Generating Company. This agreement grants authority to the State to open the lake and certain lands to the public for recreational activities, such as fishing, boating, picnicking and hunting.
